Who we are

Welcome to The Family Hotel – Tibooburra, an iconic outback pub where country hospitality is more than just a saying; it’s a way of life.

Built in 1882 from locally quarried sandstone, The Family Hotel has stood proudly at the heart of Tibooburra for over 140 years. Rich in history and character, it has welcomed generations of pastoralists, miners, explorers and travellers, becoming one of the most recognised pubs in the Australian outback.

The hotel’s name is said to have come from the early publicans, who treated every guest like one of the family, a tradition we are proud to continue today. Whether you’re stopping in for a cold drink, a hearty country meal or a comfortable night’s stay, you’ll always receive a warm outback welcome.

The Family Hotel is also home to the world-famous Family Hotel Murals. In the 1960s, renowned Australian artist Clifton Pugh and fellow artists transformed the interior walls into a remarkable series of murals celebrating the people, landscapes and spirit of the Australian bush. Today, these unique artworks remain one of the hotel’s most treasured features and are a must-see for visitors from across Australia and around the world.

Perfectly located in the heart of Tibooburra, we’re the ideal base for exploring the spectacular Corner Country, including Sturt National Park, Cameron Corner, Depot Glen, Milparinka, and the region’s rugged red landscapes.

After a day of adventure, relax with a great meal, enjoy a drink at the bar, unwind in comfortable accommodation, and experience the genuine country hospitality that has made The Family Hotel a destination in its own right for generations.

Whether you’re passing through or planning a longer stay, we look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of the outback and sharing the history, character and hospitality that make The Family Hotel so special.
